What is an oil cooler




An oil cooler is a device used to cool engine lubricating oil. It is usually installed at the bottom of the engine, and the hot oil is dissipated through the heat sink before returning to the engine.


Oil cooler is widely used in plastic machinery, construction machinery, mining machinery, automobile, steel, wind power, aerospace and other industries. There are many types of oil cooler, water-cooled oil cooler is divided into tube oil cooler and plate oil cooler, plate oil cooler is divided into detachable plate oil cooler (detachable plate heat exchanger) and brazing plate oil cooler (brazing plate heat exchanger); Air - cooled oil cooler is divided into tube - sheet type and plate - fin type.


Features of oil cooler (classified introduction) :


1, the water-cooled oil cooler uses water as the medium and oil for heat exchange, the advantage is that the cooling effect is good, can meet the requirements of low oil temperature (the oil temperature can be reduced to about 40℃, the disadvantage is that it must be used in the place with water source.


2, air-cooled oil cooler uses air as medium and oil for heat exchange, the advantage is to use air as a cooling source, basically not limited to the use of the place, and environmental protection, the disadvantage is due to the influence of ambient temperature, when the temperature is high, can not make the oil temperature to the ideal temperature (air cooling is generally difficult to reduce the oil temperature to only 5~10℃ higher than the ambient temperature).




Working principle of oil cooler:


Oil cooler is the use of water or air heat dissipation principle to reduce the temperature of engine lubricating oil. This way of heat dissipation can effectively take the heat away from the lubricating oil and reduce the temperature of the lubricating oil. Specifically, the oil cooler guides the engine lubricating oil to the interior of the oil cooler through the coolant pipeline, and then the lubricating oil flows through the heat sink in the cooler, and exchanges heat with the coolant through the heat sink, thus achieving cooling and heat dissipation.


Classification of oil coolers:


1. Water cooling type oil cooler: this oil cooler mainly reduces the temperature of lubricating oil by using the water cooling system of the engine, and has the advantages of high heat dissipation efficiency and stability.


2. Air-cooled oil cooler: this oil cooler mainly relies on external air to reduce the temperature of lubricating oil, with simple structure, small size, light weight and other advantages.


3. Oil-water hybrid oil cooler: by connecting the engine water cooling system with the oil cooling system, this oil cooler can not only ensure the normal operation of the engine water cooling system, but also realize oil cooling, with high heat dissipation efficiency, coolant is not easy to leak and other advantages.




Performance of oil cooler:


1. Wide heat transfer area: the heat transfer pipe of the oil cooler adopts the design of copper pipe thread type, and its contact area is wide, so the heat transfer effect is higher than the general smooth heat transfer pipe.


2, good heat transfer: this series of copper pipe is made of copper pipe direct rotary burning processing, so that the heat transfer pipe integration, so the heat transfer is good and sure, no solder joint off caused by poor heat transfer.


3, can be suitable for large flow: the number of heat transfer pipe is reduced, the use of oil smooth area increases, and can prevent pressure loss. It is equipped with divider to guide the flow direction, which can produce bending flow direction, increasing flow direction and exerting effect.


4. Good heat transfer pipe: 99.9% pure copper with good thermal conductivity is used, which is the most suitable cooling pipe for heat dissipation.


5, no oil leakage: because of the integrated design of the plate tube and the body, it can avoid the trouble of mixing water and oil, and at the same time, it is indeed tight after the gas tight test before delivery, so it can achieve the purpose of leakage prevention.
